Will you choose to study in Leeuwarden? Then you've picked a city with three universities and an excellent study climate.
VHL is a nine-minute walk from Leeuwarden Central Station, from where you can immediately access the vibrant city centre of Leeuwarden. Leeuwarden is a student city with loads of international students, with canals flowing through the city and also close located to the Dutch islands. You can let your hair down in one of the many nightclubs after a busy week studying, sample culture in the museums, visit a theatre performance: it is all possible in the capital of Friesland!
Our campus in Leeuwarden has a lot to offer: a library, several laboratories, technology halls, rooftop greenhouses, an animal holding room, and a grand café for relaxing during breaks.
As VHL is so centrally located, you can quickly reach the vibrant city centre of Leeuwarden. There, you can relax and enjoy life.
One of the most important things to arrange when preparing for your adventure abroad is finding accommodation where you feel at home.
With study and student associations, you quickly get to know a fun group of people. It's enjoyable, but also very useful for finding a part-time job or a room. Additionally, they organize cool activities almost weekly, such as parties, drinks, as well as excursions, cozy dinners, and interesting lectures. A student association focuses more on 'social' activities, while study associations are often linked to a specific field of study.
Do you wish to finish your daily studies in a pleasant way? This is possible. Leeuwarden has a very rich student life. VHL has its own very active student association going by the name of Osiris. In addition, the city of Leeuwarden has a number of general student associations, including Wolwêze and IO Vivat.
The study associations organise various activities on behalf of the programmes. In Leeuwarden, there are seven: Animoso (Animal Management), Medusa (Coastal and Marine Management), Mercator (Management of the Living Environment), Hallieu (Environmental Sciences), Reholitas (Food Technology), Vereniging Dispuut Sanctus Cresco (Agribusiness and Business Administration), Ingspé (Horticulture and Arable Farming), Sv Lucentis (Life Sciences and Technology).
When you start studying, many things change in your life. Usually, it goes well, but sometimes you might need some help. For example, if you have difficulties with studying (procrastination, study stress), personal problems, or questions about studying with a disability/support need (handicap or chronic illness).
