Cookie policy

We use cookies for our websites. A cookie is a simple small file sent with pages from the website and stored by the browser on your computer. We use cookies to make our websites more user-friendly. You can block cookies via your browser.

Our website places cookies on your computer - following your consent. They allow the website to function properly and cookies provide us with information that allows us to improve your user experience. Third parties may also place cookies via our website.

About cookies

On our website, we use cookies: small files sent by an internet server and stored on your computer. Cookies are also placed via third parties that we have engaged.

Permission

When you visit our website for the first time, the message appears: "We treat your data with care and never share it with third parties. Read more about our privacy and cookie statement." Essential and functional cookies are always set without your explicit consent.

In addition, we ask your permission for the placement of third-party cookies. Embedded content (such as YouTube videos) may contain third-party cookies. By clicking "Accept", you consent to the placement of third-party cookies.

You can delete cookies again via your browser settings. There you can also set what kind of cookies are placed on your computer. Most cookies have an expiry date. This means that they expire automatically after a certain period of time and no longer record data from your site visit. You can also choose to delete cookies manually via your browser settings.

Agreements with third parties

We have made agreements with third-party cookie providers and applications. Nevertheless, we do not have full control over what the providers of these applications themselves do with the cookies when they read them.

You can read more about these applications and how they deal with cookies in the privacy statements of these parties (please note that these may change regularly).

Which cookies do we use and why?

Our website uses a number of cookies, which ensure that the website functions correctly:

Essential cookies

These cookies are necessary for the website to work properly. Only anonymous basic information is used for website analysis. No personal data is stored.

Functional cookies

To be able to use additional functions, such as videos and forms, functional cookies are set. We use these to optimise the website and make it work properly. For example, these cookies make it possible to remember your preferences and they help us make the website work properly.

Analysis

Only anonymous basic information is used for website analysis. No personal data is stored.

Standard cookies

We use statistical cookies to continuously improve our website. Only anonymous information is used for this analysis. No personal data is stored.

We use the open-source web statistics package Matomo, Piwik.pro and Google Analytics to track statistics. This allows us to see how visitors use our website and provides us with information that we can use to improve the website.

By using Matomo, we process the data in-house and do not provide it to third parties. The data collected is stored in an encrypted environment in the Netherlands. Matomo is also set to automatically anonymise the website visitor's IP address: the last 9 digits of the IP address are not stored or displayed. If your browser is set not to be tracked, Matomo will not collect any data from your visit. SURF does not use cookies to identify visitors, but only to improve the website.

By using Piwik.pro, we and Piwik.pro process visitor data. The data collected is stored in Sweden (EEG) in an encrypted environment. Piwik.pro is also set to automatically anonymise the website visitor's IP address: the last 9 digits of the IP address are not stored or displayed. If your browser is set not to be tracked, Matomo will not collect any data from your visit. We do not use cookies to identify visitors, but only to improve the website.

By using Google Analytics, we and Google Analytics process visitor data. The information obtained, including the (anonymised) IP address of your computer, is stored anonymously by Google on servers.
