Your adventure at Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences begins with an unforgettable introduction week – full of nature, sustainability, fun and friends. Whether you want to party, unwind or prefer a calm start, there’s a place for everyone.
Welcome to the introduction week in Velp! In this week, we've set out a week of practical information combined with fun. We're thrilled to offer two options for you to kickstart your journey with us. So, take your pick: will you only attend the mandatory days, or will you enhance your introduction with the full week of fun? Whichever route you choose, rest assured that you'll have a fantastic start to your time in Velp.
Immerse yourself fully in VHL culture and camaraderie with our full introduction week. This week is packed with exciting activities and vibrant parties designed to help you bond with your Dutch and international classmates. During the week, you can choose to sleep at your own student room or to camp out on the estate in a tent. You have to pay a fee to join this week, but this will include a full programme and meals for four days.
Whether you're looking for excitement and parties or something more relaxed like a movie night or a hike in the woods, this program has something for everyone.
If you don’t want to join the full week; opt for our mandatory days. This option only contains the Monday and Tuesday and assures that you will receive all the important information while still meeting your fellow classmates and international students. This programme is free of charge.

Mandatory introduction moment for international students
Welcome between 10.00 and 11.00 at Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences in Velp, setting up the campsite, getting to know each other, and playing various games.
Tuesday 25 August
Mandatory study programme day
Wednesday 26 August
Dutch culture activity & sports activity
Thursday 27 August
Cycling tour with checkpoints, campsite switch, and concluding with an evening full of fun at the university (party called Laarpop)
Friday 28 August
Activity Atlas (international student organisation)
In the evenings, parties are organised by the student associations. Not a fan of parties? You can choose to join a nature excursion or relax by the campfire.
Want camp out on the estate? Make sure to pack the items below. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you have these items, as camping on the estate in the Full introduction week will not be possible without them. Camping is optional and is not required. You're welcome to participate in the programme without camping.

"I found a couple of friends through the Goin App before even starting classes, made friends with my roommates since I live in a house with 5 of them, and then also made friends during the Intro week and when classes started. I would highly recommend doing the Intro week if you are already moved here. It was such a fun experience."
