In Velp, you will study in the most beautiful classroom in the Netherlands: the Larenstein estate. On our estate, you will find more than half of all plant species in the Netherlands.
The Larenstein estate was already part of a belt of estates in the 18th century, situated at the transition between the Gelderland moraine complex and the IJssel valley. The number of estates has decreased significantly over the last century. Only street names now remind us of these pleasure gardens of the past. The Larenstein estate still exists and is now one large practical area for the various study programmes at VHL.
In the landscaped native garden, a garden with indigenous flora and fauna, several mini biotopes have been created with different soil types. Half of the 1,700 indigenous Dutch plant species can be found here, making it convenient for learning to identify plants. In addition to these special plants, foxes, a pair of kingfishers, and a stone marten also live in the garden.
The garden is also used for implementing vegetation studies, calculating water drainage in streams and conducting land surveys and soil research. It is basically a gigantic laboratory! It’s like performing fieldwork just around the corner. As soon as the sun comes out, the garden is an ideal place to relax in between lectures with your fellow students.
At the Velp campus, you can access an extensive media library, various laboratories, and a unique estate that serves as one large practical space. You'll receive your own email address, allowing you to log in to one of the many computers within the building to check your study results, schedule changes, and other updates. With spacious (practice) areas and plenty of natural light, studying and working in Velp is not only pleasant outdoors but indoors as well.
The library of Van Hall Larenstein is an inspiring and inviting learning environment where you will find up-to-date and education-related information, in any form (digital and physical). The library is used intensively as a meeting place, study area, lounge area and consultation area. The staff is happy to help you find, process and share information.
You can experience firsthand what it's like to walk through the campus in Velp. You determine the route yourself. Step into the VR Experience of VHL (in Dutch) and let yourself be surprised. Along the way, you'll encounter all sorts of things, so you'll know exactly what it looks like. Experience it as if it were real!
