Solutions for purifying wastewater in the textile industry

The textile industry makes intensive use of water. Manufacturers rinse and clean various materials and fabrics. What remains is heavily contaminated wastewater full of fats, oil, and dye. Due to the dye, the wastewater often remains discolored and full of pollutants. The water is full of chemicals, such as sulfate.

Complying with the Water Act

The textile industry often has its own wastewater treatment to comply with the standards of the Water Act (formerly the Surface Water Pollution Act) or to be allowed to discharge into the sewer system. The conditions for that treatment depend on the type of fiber and the manufacturing process. Therefore, the method of wastewater treatment in this sector can vary.

Solutions

In most cases, it is quite feasible to treat wastewater with membrane technologies. This is a collective term for various techniques where wastewater passes through a very fine filter. The filter traps pollutants such as oil and dye, as well as some harmful chemicals. Additionally, in some cases, we can use biological degradation systems. These systems remove organic substances from the wastewater and convert them into methane, water, or carbon dioxide. These substances can later be reused.

WAC

The possibilities for treating wastewater vary per company in the textile sector. The WAC offers you the facilities to research the best method for your company. You can, for example, use our membrane installations and measuring equipment. Additionally, we have various types of (waste)water to test your research, including your own wastewater if necessary.
