What is the case?
In neighbourhoods with a high concentration of social housing, there are usually many challenges for both residents individually and for the overall living environment of the neighbourhood. In the Dreven neighbourhood in The Hague, the physical space is deteriorating due to a lot of (litter) rubbish on the streets. Additionally, a portion of the residents are (long-term) unemployed. The municipality of The Hague wants to hear more voices from the neighbourhood so that it can respond to the needs of Dreven residents.
What is the project doing about it?
The project involves designing a business plan for a neighbourhood company that aims to explore opportunities with the housing corporation Staedion, the municipality of The Hague, and training-employment companies to get residents working in their own environment in exchange for appreciation and rewards.
What does the project deliver?
In the long term, this project contributes to the self-reliance and sense of responsibility of the residents. One of the desired outcomes of the project is that residents look out more for each other and also for the physical condition of the neighbourhood. Additionally, the project promotes the re-entry of residents into the labour market, making them more financially independent and reducing their worries.
Business plan timeframe: Six months, after which Staedion and the municipality of The Hague will take over the project.
