What is the case?
This research stems from the results of the Soil and Human Health project. The Soil and Human Health project aims to establish the relationship between the soil microbiome, crop nutrients, and human health (gut microbiome). However, besides crops from the Frisian soil, the milk from Frisian cows is an important product that might be linked to the microorganisms in the soil. The initial results within the Soil and Human Health project are promising. By establishing a relationship between the microorganisms in the soil and the milk composition of cows from Frisian dairy farmers, a unique distinction can be made between milk from Frisian dairy farmers and the rest of the Netherlands.
What is the project doing about it?
In this project, we are conducting pioneering research on the relationship between the soil microbiome, nutrients in grassland, and the milk composition of dairy farmers in Friesland.
What does the project deliver?
Insights into the potential relationships between soil and milk composition to set up follow-up research.
