Professor Coastal & Marine Systems at Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences.
Janneke Ottens is an experienced marine geologist and researcher with a background at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where she studied the role of calcareous plankton in the surface layer of the oceans in relation to climate change over time.
After completing her PhD and a postdoc, Janneke focused on practical work at knowledge-intensive governmental institutions such as Rijkswaterstaat, Staatsbosbeheer, and various water boards. Here, she was involved in research and knowledge management in the green-blue domain, serving operational purposes.
Janneke has always maintained her passion for education by giving guest lectures and working as a geography teacher for a year. She strives to acquire, disseminate, and further develop applicable knowledge together with the community and students, with a particular focus on coastal and marine areas.
