Professor Animal & Environment

Wiepk graduated in 1992 in Wageningen, after which she conducted her PhD research at the University of Utrecht, on location at the former Institute for Animal Husbandry Research (IVO, later merged into ID-DLO and currently WLR). She then transitioned to the business sector, first as a specialist in Life Sciences, and later as R&D manager in cattle improvement (CRV). Since 2014, she has been lector of Sustainable Dairy Farming at Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences (VHL) in Leeuwarden.

About the professor

With a graduation project on chick development, an internship on stallion fertility, research on calf immunity, PhD research on pig fertilisation, 12 years of international R&D responsibility in biotechnology and genetics in dairy cattle, and keeping horses and small livestock at home, her broad interest in various animal species is evident.

As of 1 February 2024, Wiepk is professor Animal & Environment. In the applied research group, she collaborates with associate lectors, researcher-lecturers, PhD candidates, practical lecturers, and students through practice-oriented research to contribute to a sustainable living environment, with nature and climate-inclusive, animal-friendly systems that ensure the welfare of both humans and animals.
