Learn to advise livestock farmers, conduct practice-oriented research, develop new policies, or run your own business
The animal husbandry sector is developing rapidly. Steps are being taken to further improve animal health and welfare, and to reduce environmental impact. Would you like to play a part in this? With a degree in Animals, Society and Business, you could become the advisor who helps livestock farmers innovate, or you could conduct applied research, create new policy, or run your own business.
The bachelor Animals, Society and Business strikes a perfect balance between courses on production animals, agri-business, the sector, and society, as well as between theory and practice. In the first two-and-a-half years, you take courses on animal health, reproduction and nutrition, as well as marketing and entrepreneurship. You also work with fellow students on group assignments for clients from the professional field. You complete your study programme with a minor, an internship, and a final project. In concrete terms, you learn:
As a highly educated professional, you have incredibly varied career opportunities. During your degree programme, you take part in all kinds of projects, visit trade fairs, complete internships and a final project. As a result, you will meet many peers and build an interesting network. Those contacts will help you get a flying start in the Dutch labour market and beyond. Which could include becoming a policy officer in a government organisation or NGO, a self-employed animal husbandry entrepreneur, a consultant in sustainability strategies, a research assistant for a feed producer, or a...
To be admissible, you need to have a secondary school diploma comparable to the Dutch havo diploma, which is at least NLQF 4/EQF 4 level. You can check the website of Nuffic for an indication of the value of your diploma. Our admissions department will assess your diploma when you submit your application.
We recommend having Chemistry covered until the end of secondary school, but this is not a mandatory admission requirement. This means that you are still admissible without this subject on your diploma. There are some chemistry related courses in the first year of the study programme that all students need to complete.
We also require proof of English proficiency. You are required to submit one of the following valid test results. Please note: language tests must be taken at an official examination centre (tests taken online are not accepted) and must not be older than two years.
Important: the following students are exempted from proving their English language skills:
If you have any questions about the admission requirements, please send an e-mail to info@vhluas.com.
