Better than the national average
Students at Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences (VHL) once again rate their university significantly higher than the national average. This is shown by the National Student Survey 2024. In this national survey on student satisfaction, all students in Dutch higher education are invited to give their opinion about their programme and university. VHL's scores are higher than the 'benchmark' on 42 of the 50 survey aspects.
With a response rate of 45.8%, VHL scores well above the total NSE response rate of 32.6%. The differences compared to VHL's own results from 2023 are small. However, the difference with the national average is generally large. As last year, students appreciate the atmosphere at the university the most, significantly above the national average. The percentage of VHL students who would choose the same programme again has increased this year.
Students appreciate involvement and guidance
Notable scores are the high appreciation of VHL students for 'involvement and contact' and 'study guidance'. In the latter aspect, VHL also scores the highest among all 'green' universities.
Jan van Iersel, President of the Executive Board, sees the commitment of the university's teachers and staff reflected in the results. "I am incredibly proud of the achievements of our teaching teams and staff. For them, students always come first. Our teachers and staff work hard and with passion to provide the very best education, always putting students at the centre."
In addition to the fixed themes in the NSE questionnaire, VHL has added several optional themes. One of these is the 'timetable'. The improved timetables and their announcements are appreciated by the students. Furthermore, international students at both Velp and Leeuwarden campuses are now significantly more satisfied with almost all survey aspects.
VHL once again the most sustainable higher education institution in the Netherlands
Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences was named the most sustainable higher education institution in the Netherlands. By winning the SustainaBul 2024, VHL left all universities and universities of applied sciences behind for the fourth time.
