VHL is the highest-scoring university of applied sciences
For the fourth time (in 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024), the university of applied sciences has been awarded this title, which is conferred by higher education students. Since 2018, VHL has been the highest-scoring university of applied sciences.
The second place in the ranking goes to TU Delft, and the third to Erasmus University, both new to the top regions. In evaluating the educational institutions, attention was paid to the integration of sustainability within education, research, operations, and best practices. On the aspects of 'research' and 'best practice', VHL achieved the maximum number of points.
Anneke Luijten-Lub, member of the Executive Board, is very pleased with this recognition by Studenten voor Morgen. "Sustainability is in the DNA of our university of applied sciences. Through our research and education, it is also in the DNA of the professionals we train: each one contributes to making society a bit more sustainable in their career. Being able to once again carry the title of 'most sustainable higher education institution' makes me more than proud of all colleagues and students!"
Research projects and new educational concept 'breathe' sustainability
In the ranking, the jury complimented VHL on the sustainability agenda within the university’s research and projects, which are linked to the SDGs. There was also appreciation for the development of VHL's new educational concept, in which students are involved at an early stage. Regarding operations, the jury noted that VHL works with clear goals and implementation steps, effectively advancing its own sustainability.
The SustainaBul is the ranking of Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences in the field of sustainability. It is an initiative of the national student platform Studenten voor Morgen, aiming to promote sustainability within higher education institutions. The ranking is based on the extent to which educational institutions have integrated sustainability into their education, research, and operations.
The SustainaBul was awarded this year for the thirteenth time during Groene Peper, the event on sustainability for MBO, HBO, and WO.
