Collaborating on practical solutions

At Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences (VHL), we conduct practice-based research that provides innovative solutions to complex societal challenges, such as the four transitions. A key element in our approach is the use of living labs, an internationally recognised method in which various stakeholders collaborate on practice-based solutions.

Co-creation in living labs

Our strategic ambition is to contribute to the four transitions through value creation. At HVHL, we work on current issues in various sectors of society through our living labs. A living lab is a dynamic environment where co-creation and participatory design are central. Students, lecturers, and researchers work together with practice-based professionals on real issues. Research, teaching, and innovation all take place simultaneously. This means that all stakeholders contribute their expertise and learn through doing, while contributing to practical solutions.

International living labs

By embedding internationalisation in our research and developing a select number of strong living labs, we provide a diverse network and a mature ecosystem of regional actors. Our living labs are based on equal collaboration with local stakeholders, based on local self-reliance. This means, for example, that we work locally with educational institutions, governments, citizens and other regional stakeholders.

Overview
