Frequently asked questions and answers about International Agribusiness and Trade

Business-oriented

Is this programme truly focused on business?

International Agribusiness and Trade is a truly international business programme where you learn about revenue models, profit, and entrepreneurship. Approximately 70% of the courses focus on business, while the remaining 30% provide insight into the agricultural sector (food, plants, and timber). You will learn about trade, production chains, distribution, and quality.

Farmer

Will I become a farmer with this programme?

No, you won’t become a farmer. Instead of working in production, you will work in the international trade of agricultural products. You will be trained to work for globally operating food companies, for example, as a buyer, logistics manager, or account manager introducing new products. Companies in the international agribusiness sector will be eager to hire you! It’s worth noting that the business knowledge you gain will also open doors in other sectors.

English

Is English difficult in the programme?

Many students have initial doubts about their English, but if your English is good enough to be admitted, you will manage just fine. You speak English every day, so you quickly adapt and keep improving. Most students master it in no time. By professionalising your English, you enhance your job market opportunities and gain an advantage if you want to continue with an English-taught master programme.

Sector

Why a separate business course for this sector?

Resource shortages and food security are becoming increasingly significant worldwide. The agribusiness sector plays a crucial role in this, facing specific challenges and unique business models that require specialist knowledge. While the trade of consumer goods like electronics contributes less directly to basic needs, the agricultural sector has a direct impact on daily life. Moreover, this trade is strictly regulated concerning health, safety, and environmental standards.
The International Agribusiness and Trade programme provides you with knowledge about relevant legislation, regulations, and international trade agreements, enabling you to contribute to sustainable and responsible food availability.

Admission requirements

What are the admission requirements?

To be admissible, you need to have a secondary school diploma comparable to the Dutch havo diploma, which is at least NLQF 4/EQF 4 level. You can check the website of Nuffic for an indication of the value of your diploma. Our admissions department will assess your diploma when you submit your application.

You also need to submit a language test result to prove your English proficiency. Some students are exempt from this requirement. To view which tests and scores are accepted, and to check if you are exempt from proving your English language skills, click here for further details.
