Frequently asked questions and answers about Food Technology

Chemistry

Should I be concerned about the level of chemistry in the programme?

No, our experience shows that as long as you participate actively and put in effort, it won’t be an obstacle. We really start with the basics. The chemistry you learn is primarily focused on food. Most students manage to keep up just fine.

Business component

How substantial is the business component of the programme?

In addition to courses on food and practical laboratory lessons, approximately 40% of the programme focuses on business. You will take subjects such as quality assurance, management, entrepreneurship, logistics, marketing, and finance. It is a well-balanced mix of food and business knowledge, tailored to the professional field.

Dietitian

Can I become a dietitian with this programme?

No, this programme does not qualify you to become a dietitian. However, you will learn a great deal about developing healthy food. With this programme, you could, for instance, become a process technologist, product developer, or quality manager, but not a dietitian, researcher, or chef.

English

Is English difficult in the programme?

Many students initially worry about their English, but if your English is good enough to be admitted, you will manage just fine. You speak English every day, so you quickly get used to it and keep improving. Most students master it in no time. By professionalising your English, you enhance your job market opportunities and gain an advantage if you want to continue with an English-taught master programme.

Admission requirements

What are the admission requirements?

To be admissible, you need to have a secondary school diploma comparable to the Dutch havo diploma, which is at least NLQF 4/EQF 4 level. You can check the website of Nuffic for an indication of the value of your diploma. Our admissions department will assess your diploma when you submit your application.

You also need to submit a language test result to prove your English proficiency. Some students are exempt from this requirement. To view which tests and scores are accepted, and to check if you are exempt from proving your English language skills, click here for further details.
