At Velp, you'll study in the picturesque Larenstein estate, a unique and practical classroom surrounded by diverse flora and fauna. The estate, which dates back to the 18th century, is now home to various study programmes at VHL. Its landscaped garden houses over half of the Netherlands' native plant species and serves as a living laboratory for vegetation studies, water drainage, and soil research. The estate provides a peaceful setting for fieldwork and relaxation.
The Velp campus offers excellent facilities, including a media library, laboratories, and spacious study areas. The library is a central hub for learning, meetings, and consultations.
Arnhem is home to three universities of applied sciences, making it a true student city. It’s medium-sized, affordable, and surrounded by beautiful nature. The Student Sports Card provides a discount and access to over 60 locations with activities like yoga, fitness, and boxing. Enjoy a variety of sports, either individually or in group classes.
In Velp, you can join Atlas, a student association with an international focus. They organise dinners, excursions, cycling trips, and a Christmas gala. You can find out more about their activities on their Instagram page: atlas_vhlvelp. It’s a great way to meet both international and Dutch VHL students. During the introduction week, you will have the opportunity to get to know Atlas in detail.
A lot will change when you start studying. In most cases, things will go smoothly, but sometimes you might need a bit of support. This could be the case if you face difficulties during your studies, such as procrastination or study-related stress, personal problems, or if you have a disability or need for support – for example, with dyslexia or autism. If this leads to study-related obstacles, special arrangements and facilities are available to ensure that they hinder your studies as little as possible.
