Lectures ‘Bio Beauty’

21-09-2021

At the beginning of the academic year 2021-2022, the Garden and Landscape Design programme of Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences is organising an inspiring lecture series entitled 'Bio Beauty'.

The development of more biodiversity is an increasingly important objective in the work of landscape architects. As integrally working designers, landscape architects are ideally able to link this topic to other design goals. This lecture series focuses on the aesthetic, spatial and experience aspects of designing on and with biodiversity.  On five Thursday evenings, the speakers will present their views and working methods on this subject. Everyone is welcome to follow the lectures online!

The speakers represent the breadth and topicality of the garden and landscape designer's field of work and all have a special and unique view of the central theme of this lecture series; ‘Bio Beauty’.

Maike van Stiphout is director of DS landscape architects. Biodiversity is a very important topic in the work of this agency and a personal fascination of Maike. In addition to her work as a landscape architect, Maike van Stiphout was head of Landscape Architecture of the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam from 2014 to 2018.
Mirte van Laarhoven is an independent landscape architect. With her agency Living Landscapes she designs on a large and small scale with and on nature. For example, her special design proposal for an Underwater Forest or a vision for 'living rivers' with the help of Flowing Force.
Eduardo Marin Salinas is a biologist and landscape designer at Felixx Landscape Architects & Planners. An interdisciplinary design agency that designs sustainable and happy environments at various scales. Biodiversity plays an important role in this. Judith van der Poel is landscape architect and director of Niek Roozen Landscape. The agency wants to contribute to a greener and healthier world with their work. Their work for the Floriade 2022 in Almere is a current example of this.
Dirk Sijmons is landscape architect and (co)founder/former (co)director of H+N+S Landscape Architects. As a former professor of Environmental Design at TU Delft and a former National Advisor for the Landscape, he has a strong vision on how the city and the landscape could develop more biodivers.
